Ship FAQ

Just some general things - mostly for the Executive Council (EC) for managing ships.

💡
Some of these commands, such as adding a ship, may not be visible until you close the current tab and re-open it. This is because caching keeps a list of ships in memory, as it doesn’t change very often, and the system can perform more quickly that way.

Where are all the Ship Management Functions Located?

Under the ‘Personnel’ tab, select the ‘Ship’ sub-tab. You will be presented with a list of all the ships that exist in the application.

How Do I add a New Ship?

At the bottom of the list of ships is a ‘Create Ship’ button, click it to bring up a new window that allows you to add the new ship’s name. Enter the name and press ‘Create’. This will

  1. Enter Create the entry for the ship,
  1. Add Nicholas as an Admin for the ship (every ship needs at least 1 admin, and this seemed like a good compromise)
  1. Automatically ‘Activate’ it on the site

That’s it. Note, you should add the CO of the vessel as an Admin of the vessel.

How do I add/remove an Admin to a Ship

COs and other personnel should be added to the vessl as Admins, this lets them perform key functions - such as working with the ship rosters. Note, the EC can always perform those functions.

  1. Find the Ship you want to add the admin for,
  1. To add an admin, select their name from the ‘New User’ drop down.
  1. Click the name of the user you want to add to ship. Note: The user will need to have logged into Project Aria at least once before to appear in the list.
  1. To remove an admin, click the Remove icon next to their name.

How Do I re-activate an Old Ship / Deactivate a ship?

If an old ship is re-entering service, the appropriate action is to simply re-activate it. Note, this action cannot be done from the same screen as those above can be done from the main Project Aria screen.

  1. Find the old ship in the list of ships
  1. Click the white ‘Checkmark’ - that’s it.
  1. To deactivate a ship find the ship you want to deactivate and click the circular ‘remove’ button.

Do I need to Set Up a Ship Before the Ship Starts Sending Sims?

In short, no. Once the system receives a sim which appears to be for a particular ship, for instance in the pattern ‘uss-bob’ it will automatically start setting them aside for a ship called the ‘Bob’. What setting the ‘Bob’ up will allow a CO, and others, to do is set up the roster, track statistics, and associate those sims with users and track them over time.

It is best, and easiest, to get the ship set up sooner rather than later.
